She was a finalist in the national selection for Eurovision in 2020 and 2023, and also a finalist in TV shows such as The Voice and X-Factor.\nMaryna Krut has performed at a variety of events, from official receptions such as the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, to bomb shelters to uplift Ukrainian citizens, hospitals, and frontline cities to support Ukrainian soldiers by playing traditional Ukrainian folk songs.\nClick here for more information!  ( https://www.youtube.com/@MarinaKrut )\nWhat is a bandura?\nIt is the national musical instrument of Ukraine, and is a stringed instrument used mainly to accompany folk music. The bandura has an oval wooden body; a short, fretless neck attached to the soundboard in an off-centre position; 4 to 8 bass strings running from the neck of the instrument to the body; and 30 or more (sometimes more than 60) chromatically tuned treble strings stretched over the soundboard.\nThe history of this instrument goes back to the middle ages, where it was prominent in eastern European courts. By 1876, Imperial Russia instituted sanctions and punishments for any bandura musician, which remained or escalated through WWII and well into the 1950s.
