Your Special Day at Our Special Spot: Weddings at Historic St. Mary’s
It’s no secret that here at Historic St. Mary’s we’re known for music. But that doesn’t always mean concerts—sometimes we trade our standard classical, folk, and contemporary fare for Pechabel’s Canon or Wagner’s Lohengrin. After popping the question (and getting a resounding “yes”), another question still remains: where should you get married? Well, if you love beautiful architecture, amazing acoustics, and a lovely country setting, then we’ve got good news for you: Historic St. Mary’s is available for weddings!
Whether a small intimate affair or a large gathering of family and friends, St. Mary’s will be the perfect place to tie the knot. Although St. Mary’s began as a catholic church, the building was decommissioned by the Roman Catholic Diocese in 2009 and subsequently purchased in 2010 by the Indian River Festival. In July of 2012, the church became a designated heritage place in recognition of its cultural and historical significance to Prince Edward Island. Any denomination may use the facility with the celebrant of your choice. What better place to have your special day than a place that literally has been designated as special?
We understand that picking a wedding venue can be a difficult process. But if you want some first-hand reviews from fellow Islanders, we’ve got you covered. Just see what Vanessa and David had to say:
“We loved having our wedding ceremony at St. Mary’s Church. The church was the perfect backdrop for our ceremony photos and the acoustics carried wonderfully for our ceremony’s music. All of our guests loved coming to the church for the ceremony; Islanders had the opportunity to be in the church again and our off Island guests got to visit one of Prince Edward Island’s architectural treasures. Thank you to the Indian River Festival for helping us to organize our wedding ceremony and rehearsal – having our wedding at St. Mary’s made the start of our marriage extra special!”
Need some more words of encouragement? These pictures from photographer Evan McMaster speak thousands of them.
Walking down the aisle at St. Mary’s is like walking through a story book, each page a pillar, beam, or board that holds together the beauty of the venue. We hope that the thought, effort, and love put into the space will echo in your own relationship—that the splendor of St. Mary’s will add a little bit more magic to an already magical experience.
St. Mary’s is available as a wedding venue from early June through to the end of September. For further booking information, please email Theresa.
