My song choices are influenced by two significant times in my life – my childhood and my career in the music industry.
My parents were hippies and in 1975, while living in Calgary, Alberta, they bought a renovated school bus, sold their possessions drove that bus to Prince Edward Island. (Fun fact: we lived in this bus on the cliffs of Greenwich Beach for the first three months on PEI). So much of my childhood revolved around music. We were brought up on the sounds of Arlo Guthrie, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, John Lennon, The Grateful Dead, The Eagles, and more. These were the sounds that would often lull me back to sleep at night and still bring me so much comfort to this day. I am still drawn to the sounds of present day music that has this vibe which are also reflected in some of the tracks on my list.
The second biggest influence would be my career in the music industry which started in 2006 at the East Coast Music Association. You’ll see tracks from a few East Coast artists who have become some of all-time favourites. I definitely could have doubled (tripled) this list – afterall, I am a child of the 80’s and love nothing more than blasting the hits from my favourite decade. Maybe we’ll save that one for another time.
