Under the Spire offers a summer long series of concerts in a magnificent heritage church set within sight of beautiful Malpeque Bay. UTS  provides audiences with the very best in folk, jazz, blues, classical, traditional, choral and contemporary music all in the world class acoustical setting of Historic St. Mary’s. The 2024 season runs from June to September with flexibility for students to end in late August.

Concert & Events Staff (looking to hire 2-4 people)

Reports to: Executive Director
Position Type: Full-Time, mid-June-late August. Flexible dates.
Hourly: $16.50

We’re looking for 2-4 Concerts and Events staff who are interested in pursuing a career in arts and culture. The position will provide the opportunity to gain an understanding of arts, event and venue management. Our box office is located in Historic St. Mary’s Church, 1374 Hamilton Road, Indian River and box office hours are normally 12pm-5pm daily and 1 hour prior to showtimes.

This is a full-time position (37.5 – 40 hours a week) from June-August. Must be able to work select evenings and weekends. Under the direction of the Director of Operations, and supervised by the Concert Manager, duties of the Box Office Coordinator will include (but is not limited to):

  • Working as a team in the box office and with volunteers;
  • Support and oversee support staff and volunteers including helping Concert Manager with orientation and training;
  • Work in the box office, including processing ticket orders from online/phone/walk-in sales, organizing and maintaining ticketing files, maintaining printed tickets records and reports, balancing all sales;
  • Liaise with office staff re: coordination of tickets, sponsor ticket requirements, media, benefactors and VIP ticketing, etc;
  • Responsible for cash and ticket reconciliation on a day to day basis, including concert days;
  • Assist in box office report writing;
  • Become familiar with all upcoming events at the Festival including the artists and types of music being performed;
  • Daily reception and customer service – monitor and handle customer inquiries through mail, email, telephone and in-person;
  • Provide onsite event support assistance as required for concerts and events;
  • Become familiar with tools and equipment for the position (Ticketpro and ticket printer, google drive, etc);
  • Complete daily cleaning, stocking and organizational tasks; and,
  • All other tasks as required to assist the Concert and Pavilion Managers in the execution of 2024 concerts/events and the smooth operation of all office equipment and physical office surroundings.

Eligibility: This project is dependent on funding by the province of PEI and Government of Canada. Applicants are subject to the following qualifications:

  • You must be between 18-30 years of age at the start of employment
  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident.
  • Other criteria may apply.

Pavilion Manager

Reports to: Executive Director & Director of Operations
Position Type: Full-Time, May/June-September/October
Hourly: $19

Under the Spire is hiring a pavilion manager for our 29th season producing concerts and events in rural PEI!
UTS presents between 30-40 concerts, community events, and other activities between June to September, and the Pavilion Manager is a key role for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for patrons and artists alike. This role will work alongside the Concert Manager and report to the Executive Director and Director of Operations, with as much opportunity for mentorship and education as possible.

This role will manage the St.Mary’s pavilion, which includes a wide range of event and administrative tasks associated with running a food service station open for business during concerts as well as special events. This role should feel comfortable working independently as well as with a team. The ideal candidate is highly organized, and values communication, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. This person also has a passion for the arts, community engagement, and has experience working with restaurants, catering, or other relevant experience.

This is a full-time position (40 hours a week) from May to September and the candidate must be able to work select evenings and weekends on-site June to September. The work schedule is flexible and will allow for hybrid work options outside of UTS’ event schedule.

Roles and responsibilities include the following:

  • Ordering & restocking all Pavilion supplies, cleaning supplies, and artist hospitality;
  • Work alongside the Concert Manager to problem solve and delegate to other staff as necessary;
  • Maintain all health and safety standards for the Pavilion, including compliance to PEI Responsible Beverage Server course and the Food Safety Course
  • Maintain accurate inventory, purchasing records, sales sheets, and archives as necessary;
  • Effectively communicate with varied stakeholders regarding event logistics, providing high- quality customer service and troubleshooting as necessary;
  • Commitment to compliance with all insurance, legal, health, and safety obligations for the events of the organization including the outdoor pavilion; and,
  • Provide support in various administrative tasks including assisting in preparing final reports, assist in marketing and communications and general accounting tasks in support of the Association’s Bookkeeper

You are:

  • An experienced event planner with minimum 2 years’ experience managing staff, volunteers, or comparable experience in a leadership role;
  • Proficient in detail-oriented project management, working independently to manage multiple projects at once;
  • Able to provide leadership and demonstrate motivational and team building skills;
  • An effective communicator able to work with various stakeholders;
  • Able to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines;
  • Able to work weekends and evenings (as communicated in advance);
  • Someone with a general understanding of technology and information management systems;
  • Committed to building community relationships; and,
  • Above all, a music lover!

Eligibility: This project is dependent on funding by the province of PEI. Applicants are subject to the following qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident);
  • Other criteria may apply.
