2025 Youth Legacy Performers Announced

June 6, 2025 by Noelle Pettipas

This is the next generation of classical music.

Our 2025 Youth Legacy Concert highlights some of the best young classical musicians on PEI. Each year, these artists are selected through participation in the PEI Kiwanis Music Festival . Each artist will prepare a selection of solo works to share with you. At the end of the night, one of these performing artists will receive the Robert Kortgaard Award from Under the Spire – a monetary prize & future performance opportunity at Under the Spire.

Each of our participating artists will be representing PEI this summer at the National Music Festival (Federation of Canadian Music Festivals) in New Brunswick!

Amy Leblanc – flute

Amy is a flute player from Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick. She began playing in Grade 9 with her school concert band and quickly discovered a passion for music. Now a student at the University of Prince Edward Island, Amy studies under Morgan Saulnier as she pursues a degree in music education, aspiring to become a music teacher. Outside of her academic studies, Amy enjoys performing in pit bands and embraces every opportunity to grow as a musician. This is her first year participating in a music festival as a solo performer, and she is thrilled to be a part of the Youth Legacy Celebration Concert. She is also looking forward to performing at the National Music Festival in July

Janey-Lynn Perrier – soprano

Janey is a Mi’kmaq classical singer from Kippens, Newfoundland. She graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Music in 2024. Janey has performed and soloed with the UPEI Chamber Choir and Concert Choir. She has competed in the Provincial and National Festivals. Janey has toured Newfoundland and Labrador with a show called Nsituninal, where she mixed her love for classical music and Indigenous culture to tell the story of the Beothuk people. Janey hopes to continue representing Indigenous people through her work as a classical musician.

Timothy Luk – piano

Meet Timothy Luk, a passionate fourth-year piano performance student at the University of Prince Edward Island. Under the mentorship of Dr. Magdalena von Eccher, he embraces a diverse repertoire—from the timeless works of Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin to the emotional pieces of Liszt, Debussy, and more. His musical journey isn’t limited to solo performances; Timothy has also enjoyed collaborating with choral groups like the Island Choral Society and Luminos Ensemble, as well as accompanying a range of soloists from sopranos to saxophonists.Timothy’s talent has shone through on both local and national stages. He recently won in the Advanced Piano Category at the 2025 PEIKMFA Provincial Festival; he also earned the Special Chopin Award at the 2024 FCMF National Music Festival, the first prize in the 2024 Dr. Frances Gray Performance Competition, and the 2023 Senior Rosebowl at the Queens County Music Festival. With each performance, he continues to make his mark on the classical music scene.

We will also be joined by special performance guest, the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus!

Mark your calendars for an event that will leave you feeling amazed and inspired.

This event is admission by donation.
