To help make the booking process easier for you, we’ve included some of the commonly asked questions that we receive from our renters here for you to review.
What spaces are available to rent?
Historic St. Mary’s, Pavilion, and lawn areas are the main areas available for rent. We offer additional smaller rooms that can be added on to a rental package to used as dressing rooms or gathering spaces for the wedding parties, performers, etc.
Where can we park?
Event parking is located to the right side of Historic St. Mary’s, in front of the cemetery. Parking beside or behind the Pavilion is reserved for staff.
Accessible parking is available for those who need it. Please contact us for more information.
Can I have a bar at my event?
Yes! The Pavilion has a built-in bar space within the kitchen area. There will be rules and regulations to follow regarding alcohol on our property:
Alcohol Procurement & Distribution: All alcohol that comes onto the premises must be purchased and served by Under the Spire in accordance with the rules of our Liquor License, as laid out by the PEI Liquor Commission.
Licensed Areas: Liquor is permitted within Historic St. Mary’s, the Pavilion, and within the boundaries of the lawn area as marked by liquor stakes. Liquor is not permitted in any area outside of these boundaries, including, but not limited to, Historic St. Mary’s front door landing, front lawn, and parking areas.
We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for you and your guests. Renters who do not abide by our liquor law regulations will be charged a fine for non-compliance.
How many people can I invite?
Historic St. Mary’s holds 350 people in its pews
The Pavilion can hold approximately 60 people seated with tables, and 100 people standing with room for a dance floor. The capacity of the Pavilion can be extended by utilizing the outdoor lawn space.
Can I use the lawn area?
The lawn in front of the Pavilion is included in the rental fee of the Pavilion and Historic St. Mary’s. It can be used as an outdoor ceremony venue or an additional space for guests. It can also be rented alone if no other spaces are desired.
This space comes with a new Pergola and swing, as well as several picnic tables. UTS has a small 10 foot x 10 foot tent that is available to rent.
Large outdoor tents can be rented from an external vendor and put up on the lawn that can accommodate up to 150 people seated around tables.
What about catering?
Any licensed caterer is welcome at your event!The Pavilion space includes a licensed kitchen and caterers can use the stove, oven, and full sized fridge as required.
We work closely with several local caterers and would be happy to give you recommendations to best fit the type of event you’re planning.
How much does it cost?
Our spaces and services are offered in an a-la-carte fashion so we can build a package that suits your wants and needs. Please find more information of pricing and add-ons here.
Is there a curfew on late evening rentals?
Out of respect for our neighbours, we ask that all events are quiet by 11PM and guests are out of the space by 11:30PM.
We ask that the rental space is empty and returned to the same state it was found in at the commencement of the booking, unless prior arrangements are made.
What about payment methods?
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the base rental fee is due within 7 days of signing your rental agreement. An invoice with all remaining charges will be emailed to you within 2 weeks after your event and final payment is due within 30 days of receipt of your invoice.
Payments can be made through e-transfer, in-person with cash, credit, or debit card, or over the phone with a credit card. We do not accept cheques.
Is there anything else I should know before I rent?
You will be required to purchase and provide event liability insurance for your booking for coverage of $1M (one million dollars).
We can provide a limited number of tables and chairs for your booking. You will be responsible for bringing in more if you require them.
The use of our soundboard and other music equipment is not included with the rental of Historic St. Mary’s. An approved sound engineer can be hired by UTS for an extra fee if this service is desired.
