Under the Spire Announces Jennifer Bartlett as New Executive Director

November 25, 2024 by Noelle Pettipas

Her appointment to the position officially began on November 12, 2024.

Under the Spire is excited to announce the appointment of Jennifer Bartlett to the role of Executive Director, effective November 12, 2024. Jennifer has a life-long love and passion for music and the arts.  Jennifer has a BA in History, a Bachelor of Education and a Masters in Classical Literature. She has a long record of success as a leader and administrator in the education system.

Jennifer states: “I am so excited to announce that I have joined Under the Spire as the new Executive Director. I know that I have big boots to fill and I’m excited for the challenge and the opportunity to join this magical organization within this kind, generous, and musically gifted island. . .  I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I was a clarinetist with the Canadian Forces for several years, and spent the last 20 years in Calgary, Alberta, where I worked for the Calgary Board of Education. I was a School Administrator, and a huge advocate of Arts education and funding for the Arts. I was actively involved in the Cochrane Music Society and played for both ‘Band on the Bow’ as well as a clarinet quartet called ‘The River Reeds.’ In addition to my love of music, I am a Spoken Word poet, a Speech, Debate, and Model UN Coach, a published writer, and a Stonewall award winner for advocacy in the 2S+LGBTQ community.”

Under the Spire is in a strong position to continue to build for the future and create an ever-evolving legacy of exceptional musical (and magical) experiences for audiences and musicians alike for generations to come.

While adjusting to her new role as executive director, Jennifer is excited to meet Under the Spire’s community of supporters. “I want to start by meeting as many of you as possible! I want to hear the stories, the histories, and the wishes you have for Under the Spire and Historic St. Mary’s. We are part of a very special music AND island community and connecting with each other is so important! Under the Spire is looking for community connections and partnerships. Enjoying music in the acoustically exquisite St. Mary’s would not be possible without the support of all of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, artists, audiences, Board of Directors, staff, and supporters. You are all part of the Magic! I hope to hear from you in the coming days. My email is ed@underthespire.ca.”

The mission of Under the Spire is to present exceptional musical experiences that showcase the unparalleled acoustics of Historic St. Mary’s. We foster a vibrant and ever-evolving legacy of classical music, diverse genres, and a sense of community. Watch for information about the 2025 program, as we celebrate the 30th year of the organization! Our promise is that you will be transported, moved and changed by exceptional musical performances that allow you to connect with the artist in an intimate and unique setting.
