A note from our Artistic Director, Robert Kortgaard
Many festival regulars who attended one, or both of the performances given by the Saskatoon Children’s Choir a few seasons ago, exclaimed that it was one of the most beautiful, moving experiences in IRF history. Under the superb direction of Phoebe Voigts, the ensemble was joined for one evening by our own Indian River Festival Chorus, conducted by Kelsea McLean. Kelsea grew up in Saskatchewan, and I know that she was very aware of the fine work that Phoebe and the SCC were doing, and continue to do. It was wonderful to have these two excellent musical directors collaborating at IRF, and we sure hope that the SCC will come back to PEI someday. The choir has done many national and international tours, and Phoebe told me that their experience at IRF was one of their most artistically fulfilling, memorable tours.
The Saskatoon Children’s Choir produced the following Christmas 2020 video. While it can’t ever replace the joy of seeing and hearing them live at IRF, it will definitely bring back memories for those who were so moved by their performances.
