Like Father, Like Son: The Music of Dave and Jud Gunning & Shane and Mike Pendergast
Join us for a very special singer-songwriter circle, Like Father, Like Son, celebrating East Coast music, storytelling, and musical legacy. This intimate evening brings together two remarkable father–son pairings: acclaimed folk troubadour Dave Gunning alongside his father Jud Gunning, and PEI folk favourite Shane Pendergast with his father Mike Pendergast.
With over two decades on the road and fifteen albums to his name, Nova Scotia’s Dave Gunning is one of Canada’s most respected folk singer-songwriters, known for his warm stage presence, sharp wit, and songs that honour everyday people and hard truths. Sharing the stage with him is his father, Jud Gunning, a dedicated guitarist and rising voice in the Nova Scotian music scene whose love of classic country, folk, and instrumental traditions shines through in every performance.
From Prince Edward Island, Shane Pendergast carries folk music in his blood. Descended from a long line of Island storytellers and musicians, he has become one of Atlantic Canada’s finest folk troubadours, with award-winning albums and songs that capture the beauty and resilience of Maritime life. Joining Shane is his father, Mike Pendergast—affectionately known as “The Music Man”—a beloved cultural ambassador, accordion player, and mentor whose lifetime of sharing songs, stories, and ceilidh traditions has helped shape PEI’s musical landscape.
Rooted in tradition yet alive in the present, Like Father, Like Son is a heartfelt celebration of family, craft, and the enduring spirit of East Coast music—a truly unforgettable show for the ages.
