Island Proud with Aaron Comeau
Island Proud features a 45 minute concert followed by a reception in the pavilion with the artist.
On July 31st we begin our Island Proud series! Musician, composer, engineer, artist — these labels and many more make up the diverse approaches to sound that Aaron Comeau employs in each of his works. An in-demand session player and studio haunt, he regularly performs with the likes of Skydiggers, Hayden, and Logan Richard, and has appeared on countless recordings, most recently with Carlie Howell, KINLEY, and Nick Doneff. When giving a rare solo performance, Aaron considers all aspects of the environment subject to artistic invention, imbuing every stage with elements of installation work. His official exhibitions at Charlottetown’s Art In The Open in both 2022 and 2023, as well as a two-day solo piano performance at the Beaconsfield Carriage House in May 2023, all featured a variety of interactive visual & auditory stimuli that challenged the traditional boundary between audience & performer. 2024 will see the release of his debut songwriter record, Infinity Trials, in addition to his inaugural performance at the Under The Spire Music Festival, where he serves as technical director.
Midsummer Magic: The Four Seasons and a Melting Iceberg
Join us August 2nd for our first concert in Midsummer Magic which presents Pallade Musica, a baroque chamber orchestra, in a concert discussing our seasons in a time of climate change. The repertoire evokes a vision of four seasons in an era of climate change, and includes Antonio Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons performed by four young violinists alongside The Four Seasons and a Melting Iceberg, a work for solo recorder by Canadian composer Matthias Maute. Vivaldi’s sonnets as well as new texts written by Acadian authors will provide an original narrative framework for this concert.
Midsummer Magic: Bagels & Bach with Sarah Hagen
On August 4th we are presenting our second concert in the Mid Summer Magic series! Sarah Hagen brings this classic programme featuring Bach’s formidable Goldberg Variations as part of the celebration of the recent release of her recording of the masterwork.
Cherished by many, the Goldberg Variations are emblematic of keyboard virtuosity, rich expression, and hardcore classical interpretation. Sarah will offer a short introduction to this marvellous and intense piece before playing the full work. After the performance, please join us in the Pavillion for a talk-back with the artist and bagels from C&B Corner Cafe.
